About the 15 Million Years of Healthy Life Social Movement
What is the 15 Million Years of Healthy Life Social Movement?
Singaporeans enjoy one of the longest life expectancies in the world, averaging 85 years, but spend the 10 years in poor health. The challenge now is to not only add more years to life, but those years to be lived as fully as possible and in good health – physically, mentally, and socially.
The Adding 15 Million Years of Healthy Life (15M) Movement aspires for our residents to live as many of their years in good health as possible, both delaying the onset of serious illness and improving quality of life, ensuring that residents not only live longer but also healthier lives.
Why 15 million years?
We aspire for each of the 1.5 million residents living in Central and North Singapore to regain the 10 years typically spent in ill health. In totality, we will be regaining 15 million years of healthy life.
Why is social connectedness important?
Health is social. Social determinants impact 80% of health outcomes compared to 20% effect of medical care. Social connections have strong effects for motivating and supporting and sustaining the behaviour change critical for transforming our communities and healthcare.
How Residents Can Get Involved
How can I participate in the 15 Million Years of Healthy Life Movement?
Participate by joining or organising activities among your family, friends, neighbours, colleagues, schools, that promote health and well-being.

It could include exercise groups, interest groups, or supporting isolated and needy persons in the community, or simply bringing neighbours together to support one another’s well-being. Working with Partners and Communities
Who are the key partners in the 15M Social Movement?
The movement is supported by community partners across Central and North Singapore, including grassroots organisations, healthcare providers, active ageing centres, schools, and workplaces, who help foster a culture of health and well-being.
How do community partners like active ageing centres contribute to the movement?
Community nodes, such as active ageing centres, play a crucial role by providing spaces for residents to connect, participate in health-related activities, and build relationships that enhance social and mental well-being.
What are caring communities?
Caring communities are social networks within neighbourhoods, made up of residents for residents, supported by community partners and NHG, to act together for our residents’ health.
What is the Theory of Change for the 15M Social Movement?
We believe that caring communities grow when residents deepen relationships with each other, when residents take on roles and action in their groups and wider community to contribute to health and well-being.
How can my organisation support the 15M Social Movement?
There are three key ways that organisations can support the 15M Social Movement:
Campaign
Firstly, by helping to increase the awareness of and participation in the 15M Social Movement and Social Challenge among residents of Central and North Singapore.
Gather
Next, to help identify and gather resident connectors and resident organisers into networks for them to empower each other through sharing their success stories.
Enable
Lastly, to grow caring communities within your neighbourhoods by providing resident connectors and resident organisers with support and resources to deepen relationships and improve themselves and their initiatives.
The 15M Social Movement invites like-minded partner organisations in the community to join in spreading and supporting the movement. Contact us at 15M@nhg.com.sg to find out more!
Why should my organisation support the 15M Social Movement?
Stronger together
Residents are at the heart of what we do. A lot of good work has been done by our community partners, and we aim to work together with them to build upon this foundation and develop more support and resources for our residents to connect and act together for more years of healthy life.
Recognising Resident Leaders
An annual event will be hosted to recognise resident connectors and resident organisers in Central and North Singapore.
What are the different type of resident leader roles?
Activated residents
Residents who proactively care for their health and the health of those in their personal circle. They may also care for others through volunteering in specific activities in a supportive role.
Resident connectors
Residents who actively link residents in their wider community to services, resources or other residents for health and social support.
Resident organisers
Residents who engage their communities for joint action through organising activities or programmes for health. They also activate and enable others as activated residents and resident connectors, as well as connect with other resident organisers.
